It has been a busy first week back at Truro School after a lovely summer holiday. The new boarders to Poltisco House arrived several days ahead to take part in our induction programme which sees the students get to know their fellow boarders, Truro city centre and the surrounding areas and the school itself.
Over the bank holiday weekend all the pupils in the boarding community enjoyed a range of activities. On Monday the boarders who are new to our boarding community went to Newquay to enjoy the summer sunshine on the beach. It was still very busy with people on their summer holidays, even if it was a little chilly when the wind picked up. On Tuesday and Wednesday all the boarders got to have a guided tour around Truro City centre to get their bearings of the shops as well as play a range of sports including squash, basketball and bowling. The girls have all settled in to Poltisco House and were set for their first full day of lessons on Friday and all really enjoyed the subjects they had been taught.
This weekend the boarders have taken part in fencing with the coaches from Truro Fencing Club which is one of the UK’s leading fencing clubs. After learning some fencing techniques the girl’s challenged some of the Pentreve boys in a few jousting matches and Amelie did particularly well. After all that exercise we thought it was best to order in some pizzas in a whole array of flavours.
Helena went to Truro Cathedral on Sunday to listen to the Cathedral Choir boys and adults sing Evensong and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a girl chorist herself, Helena has been invited to take part in the Chamber Choir to sing Choral Evensong at Exeter Cathedral on Wednesday. We are looking forward to hearing all about it.
After what has been a busy week we have a peaceful Sunday in the house and have indulged in some banana splits and ice cream, these went down very well indeed. The girls have been very happy and have told me that they have enjoyed the weekend activities, especially the fencing on Saturday in our evening chat.
The girls are now settling down and organising their school books ready for the first full week of lessons.
