Poltisco Boarding Update – 28 September 2015 – Segways

We have welcomed some new faces this week with extra flexi boarders in Poltisco – Poppy in the 2nd Year at the beginning of the week and Taomi from the 1st Year and Scarlett from the 2nd Year on Wednesday. It was lovely to see how much effort the older girls put in to making them feel at home and showing them the ropes in the Dining Hall. We had our half termly Boarders’ chapel service on Wednesday and as always, it was a special time as we came together as a community and ended with all the boarders building a ‘cairn’ or rock pile by the alter using Cornish stones, to represent there being a place for everyone at Truro School.

Boarding on Saturday

We have been blessed with beautiful weather this week. On Saturday most of the girls went in to town to enjoy the Food Festival which Truro is hosting over the weekend. When they returned we took advantage of the beautiful weather and had traditional Cornish cream teas and strawberries in my garden. Afterwards we played conkers which my children had collected that morning from the huge Horse Chestnut Tree in the garden- Henrike emerged victorious although Helena undoubtedly displayed the most tenacity! Some of girls stayed playing football in the garden until supper time and it has been lovely that we were able to spend so much time outdoors. In the evening our Hong Kong girls joined students from the other boarding houses to go for a Chinese meal to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.

Boarding on Sunday

On Sunday we had a hearty brunch with the rest of the boarding houses and then headed off in minibuses with Mr Nicholas and the boys from Pentreve. We drove south-west towards the Lizard and arrived at Goonhilly Earth Station, the venue for our ‘Segway experience’. After a wobbly start for those who hadn’t done it before we were off, playing relays and off roading. On the way back we stopped off at beautiful Poldhu Beach to enjoy ice creams before driving back to Truro in time for supper.
It’s only 3 weeks until half term now and I thought I would take this opportunity to remind parents of the house opening times. The boarding house closes on Friday 16 October at 5pm, and reopens after 2 weeks on Sunday 1st November at 2pm. Miss Hargreaves will send out travel forms to all parents at the beginning of next week, please return them to us in good time so that we can update our travel spreadsheet. We look forward to meeting some of you again on the 16th but if you have any queries regarding half term or travel arrangements, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
