On Wednesday the boys went into town to see the annual ‘City of Lights’ parade, the weather held off and there were some fantastic lanterns on display and much music and frivolity!!
Friday night was normal routine, Alec and Nils at tennis, some prep and then the SBASC for some activities.
On Saturday Fabian played rugby for the under 15 team who had a resounding victory over Shebbear College. Alec and Jonas took part in the County Schools Chess Tournament and both acquitted themselves well with Alec being runner-up in the under 15 competition. The boys chose to go to the cinema again this weekend to see the new Hunger Games movie: ’Mockingjay, Part 1’. Armed with their £5 missed meal allowance they ate heartily of popcorn and fizzy drinks! Although of course on their return at 8pm it had been as though they had not eaten for a week! Pizzas were simply not sufficient anymore, so as well as eight of the 10” pizzas it was wall to wall chicken wings and thighs and some ‘quorn’ for Jonas of course! All washed down with more drink and of course a ‘lucky dip’ from the chocolate bag!
On Sunday the weather looked a little unsettled but it cleared up just in time for the much awaited ‘Pentreve Open Golf Championship’. This year’s field was a very international affair as all the best golfers in the world from France, Germany, Nigeria, Hong Kong and the UK descended on the Holywell 18 hole pitch and putt course. I know what you are thinking, but sadly Mr Nick’s entertainment budget did not stretch to Gleneagles, maybe next year, I will have to ask the Head for a much increased budget! Fabian was the player of the day with a round of 74; let’s just say some of the others had their money’s worth in terms of shots played for the price of the round and they may struggle to make the cut next year if Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson turn up and don’t wimp out when they realise that Bosco is playing again!
It was great to welcome Will back on Sunday night as he was 13 years old: all downhill from now as you are officially a ‘teenager’ Will! Sunday night was the usual prep and preparing for Monday.
