Pentreve – beach football and paintballing

With blue skies and the sun making further appearances this week there has been a distinct feeling that spring may have finally arrived!  What has this meant for the boys in Pentreve?  Football in the garden, table tennis in the courtyard, and Shin’s flip flop clad feet are now a little less cold!

This week saw the usual round of football fixtures for Eneko and Rory.  Results were mixed: Eneko represented the school in the U14 team who notched up one win (3-1, against Penrice) and one defeat (1-2 against Penair), whilst Rory was part of the U15 squad that came away as winners (5-0) against Penair on Wednesday.  This week had a musical feel to it too.  Truro Methodist Church hosted this year’s Cornwall Music Festival and both Calum and Daniel were involved.  Calum performed in the saxophone ensemble, whilst Daniel sang; it really is great to see the many talents of our boys being recognised and pursued.

Before we realised it, Friday afternoon and the start of the weekend was upon us, and with the promise of further good weather the boys were looking forward to relaxing and getting some fresh air.  Friday evening saw the boys complete some prep and then most headed to the SBASC for an hour and a half of sports hall football with Mr Mulready.  David and Eneko opted out in order to watch the school play ‘The Mobile Phone Show’ in the Burrell Theatre.  It was then an hour of television watching in the common room before bed.

Saturday was an early start for Eneko and David as they headed to Tauntan for hockey.  The U14s have dominated their Cornwall-based fixtures and so the boys were looking forward to some more evenly matched competition, and they were not disappointed.  They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, despite the result.  Calum headed to the pool first thing and then spent the day with his grandparents, whilst the remaining boys visited town, Tesco’s and Domino’s before watching some rugby back at the house.  With the minibus ready in anticipation, and the sun getting brighter throughout the afternoon, we decided that an impromptu visit to Perranporth for some beach football, rugby and ice cream eating was required.  Much fun was had and the little Mulreadys, Poppy and Matilda, even managed to coax an unsuspecting Paul and Cyrus into the sea – and wow it was cold!

Saturday evening saw the usual round of DVD watching and pizza eating and the boys went to bed suitably tired.

Sunday brought slightly cloudier skies and this weekend’s eagerly awaited activity: paintballing.  After brunch the excited boys (all bar David who was playing golf) boarded the minibus bound for Big Dunks.  Two and a half hours, five games, 250+ paintballs (each) and a lot of fun later the boys remerged exhilarated and muddy!  You can view a gallery of photos from our weekend here.

The boys returned to the house for showers before a tasty supper of minute steak or pork chops with all the trimmings.  It was then time for some homework, room tidying and laundry before bed.  What will next week bring?  Make sure that you read next week’s Pentreve Blog to find out what the boys get up to.
