U11 Football League
Our U11 football team has now played two of their league games, held at Richard Lander School on Monday evenings. The team has played very well, and competed with great effort and enthusiasm against schools that have football as their main sport. Our results so far have been a 3 – 0 loss to Threemilestone and a 2 – 0 loss to Archbishop Benson.
The remaining fixtures this term are:
Monday 21 October 4.15 – 4.45pm at Richard Lander Astro against St Agnes
Monday 11 November 4.15 – 4.45pm at Richard Lander Astro against Devoran
Monday 25 November 4.15 – 4.45pm at Richard Lander Astro against Mount Hawke
Hopefully, we will be able to enter a second team as well next term, so that we can offer the opportunity of competitive football to more of the pupils who have been attending the Monday evening practices.
Please note, there will be practices on the following dates (as there are not any league fixtures):- 4/11/13, 18/11/13, 2/12/13, 9/12/13.
Year 4 Rugby v Polwhele – Thursday 10 October
Following the coaching session for the ‘new style’ rugby for U9’s and the positive start they made to the season in beating Kelly College by 5 tries to 4 and St. Petroc’s by 4 tries to 3, our Year 4 rugby team produced another impressive display. This time our 13 played against Polwhele at home, producing good attacking rugby with close support. Some strong individual tackling helped secure a 9 tries to 5 win.
Well done to the players and remember – along with those who want to try and get into the team – to attend the Year 4 Rugby training sessions on Wednesdays from 4 to 5pm.
Year 3 Tag Rugby v Polwhele – Thursday 10 October
All 15 boys in Year 3 were selected to represent Truro Prep in Year 3’s first school tag rugby match, against Polwhele at home. The players produced some exciting running rugby with great support play that enabled them to score 13 tries in reply to Polwhele’s 8, thus securing a well-earned win.
Well done to all the players and remember to come to the Year 3 rugby skills sessions held on Fridays from 1pm to 1.30pm in the Sportshall (lunch to be eaten immediately after this).
U11 Rugby v Plymouth College
After a long coach trip, our U11B team played the first match against a very competitive and strong Plymouth B team. After a series of good attacks, Max Beaman went on a ‘weaving’ run that took him through the oppositions defence to score a try. Unfortunately we did not convert this, which proved costly as Plymouth responded with a try of their own, with a conversion. As there were no further scores our B team lost by just 2 points in a match that probably deserved to be drawn.
Our A team then took to the field. We initially looked as though we would record an away win, with some exciting attacking play and fierce tackling. However, a ‘puzzling’ interpretation of the off-side law unfortunately hampered our attacks and enabled Plymouth to gain back possession, which they used to launch some impressive counter attacks from their three quarter line. Two of these attacks eventually resulted in tries for Plymouth and, although Truro continued to press hard for scores, we did not manage to get the scores we deserved.
Well done to both teams for the effort and determination shown. As always, the coach journey and ‘teas’ were enjoyed regardless of the results!
