Netball Update- 14 November

Under 19 County Netball Tournament

Playing at Truro School there were only 5 teams in the County tournament this year. A round robin tournament was played and all 11 players took to the court. Wins were recorded against Penwith College (12-6), Budehaven School (8-5) and Truro High School (8-7). Truro College proved too strong with a 5-13 loss. Truro School held them in the first half, but too many unforced errors let the college pull away. This was enough for Truro School to be tournament runners up, joining the Under 16s with a place in the Regional Finals in Bournemouth in January.

SSP vs Pool Academy

Under 12  Won 20-3

After an unsettled start the Under 12 team captained by Emily Bailey won the fixture 20-3.  Some accurate shooting from Meila – nominated player of the match – led to a convincing lead after three quarters, and was sustained in the final quarter. The team defended exceptionally well, picking up loose balls from passing errors. Good vision and space awareness meant that turnovers quickly arrived in the shooting circle. Quick passing and dynamic movement by Lola meant good shooting position could be obtained.

Under 13 Won 28-3

Under 14 Won 13-3

This was a great game for our defence they not only pressured the passes from the Pool attack but angled their bodies to enable them to make interceptions. E Nettleton,A Rawlinson,K Mantle and J Howard played as a unit and after the interceptions in the circle worked  E Waterhouse who was  playing centre for the first time getting the ball to the shooters. E Waterhouse had great vision passing to the shooters and always re offering for the next pass. Truro were victorious with the score line Pool 3 Truro school 13

Under 15 Won

Under 16 Won 33-6

A thoroughly convincing win against Pool with the girls dominating all quarters. The second quarter highlighted this in particular with a scoreline of 10 goals to 1. Player of the match was Connie Hatcher.

Under 14 vs Newquay Tretherras Won 31-12

A physical game played outside in cool conditions. The Under 14s struggled to score during the first half of the game due to the sun steadily going down and good shooting position hard to find. As the ends changed, the bright sun was no longer an issue but a very wobbly post! Not put-off by the tricky conditions the team worked hard to support one another, making several interceptions and offering the shooters plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. In the second half, Truro School played some great netball, timing their moves to take the ball down the court quickly. Tight defence meant that Newquay did not score in the third quarter and despite some accurate shooting from the opposition in the final quarter Truro held onto their lead.

Under 16 vs Newquay Tretherras Won 22-20

A close fought game that was ultimately decided by a resounding scoreline in the third quarter. After a poor start, losing the first quarter by 6 goals to 2, a regroup and change of tactics for the second saw the deficit down to two.  However, a dominant third quarter, outscoring their opponents by 11 goals to 2 sealed this victory and although Newquay responded well in the fourth, to narrow the gap, the girls did enough to hold on. Players of the match were Grace and Aerin .

Under 15 ISNC vs Wycliffe College Won 54-29

The Under 15s had a long journey up to Gloucester. After an excellent warm up they took to the court and played some determined netball. Wycliffe were not an easy team to play and the score does not reflect the difficulties that they encountered at times. Wycliffe never gave up and Truro would pull away, only for Wycliffe to up the intensity. A well deserved win, progressing through to the second round of this National competition. A great squad effort.
