Playing their first match in the new Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre a large squad of twelve girls were faced with a strong former pupils team.
For the U18s it was a training game used to try out many different combinations. A lot of the squad were forced to play out of position as seven of those twelve players are in fact shooters (a very unusual situation to be in). In the first quarter both teams started nervously with very little between the two teams.
The former pupils took advantage in the second quarter and established quite a comfortable lead due to many unforced errors from the U18s. The second half was incredible with the girls digging deep. Captain Amelia Grigg led by example making many vital interceptions and working tirelessly for her squad. The new comers were equally as impressive demonstrating their versatility and confidence. School won the third and fourth quarters but unfortunately lost by just one goal in a nail biting finish.
An excellent start from what seems to be a very determined group of players.
