Netball Summary – Week Beginning 20 January 2014

Truro U12B vs Penair U12A – won 4-3

This was a closely contested match. Penair put out their 1st team but the girls matched them in all positions. The surface was slippery and the girls were tentative in their movement but they adjusted well. It was a good squad effort and they deserved the win.

Truro U13B vs Penair U13A – Lost 2-8

In a frantic match, Truro held a strong Penair team to just three goals in the first half before succumbing to some late pressure and going down in this entertaining game. Anna was resolute in defence and led the team admirably as captain.

U13A – Bryanston Prep School Tournament

This was a fantastic tournament for the U13s; the quality of the games was superb. Truro were drawn in a very strong pool; they performed admirably against some strong opposition and were very unfortunate to lose narrowly in three games, winning one and drawing one. Truro then went into the next stage of the competition winning their semi-final and final and emerging winners of the Spoon competition. Alice B was player of the tournament for Truro, but it was a great squad performance.

U18 vs Truro College

The U18s travelled up to the college for a training match before the Regional Finals at the weekend. Lots of seven minute games were played in preparation; enabling both teams to try out various combinations. A big thank you to Miss Thompson who accompanied the girls.

U14 Regional Netball Finals – Bournemouth

The under 14’s will have gained so much from the Regional Tournament about the game and themselves. They realised early on that you need to be at the top of your game in every match. Shooting needs to be consistent, defending full on and passing accurate and, in seven minutes, if any of these break down it is hard to get back. Mental strength is equally important, especially when things go wrong, and I’m sure that the girls will have gained this.

They fought hard in all their matches and, apart from two, the results were close. They had two good wins and overall came 5th in their section, with the two teams above only having one point more.

U18 Regional Netball Finals – Bournemouth

The under 18’s had some very mixed results this year. At times they played exceptionally; the game against Exeter College (who finished third overall) being one of these. Effort levels were high and the girls stuck to the task well, losing narrowly by two goals. The match against New College was also superb; the attack of Christina, Milly, Louise and Amelia working well.

With many Lower Sixth girls in the squad, Truro will have gained valuable experience this year and can aim high again next year.
