It was a busy week in the Netball last week with games in all age groups along with the County Netball Tournament.
Vs Polwhele House School
Under 12’s B Won 24-5
Once again this was a great team effort, the girls are putting the skills they have learnt in training into practice on court and are driving onto the ball and using the whole court.
Vs Truro High School
Under 15’s Won 30-12
With illness and injury prevailing it gave the squad an opportunity to try out some different playing combinations. Amy had an excellent game at centre linking well with both shooters who were in fine form. A super team performance proving how versatile the squad are becoming.
Block Fixture Vs Mount Kelly A
Under 12’s & 13’s A Won 17-5
The first and second years played together for the first time displaying lots of potential for the future. Aerin was voted player of the match.
Under 12’s & 13’s B Won 8-3
Considering the squad of 12 had never played together before, they did exceptionally well. At times the ball flowed beautifully down the court. Truro dominated and were rewarded with a good win.
Under 12’s & 13’s C Won 6-1
With a squad of 12 the girls changed each quarter. The squad was a mixed aged group but the combinations worked well. They defended Mount Kelly forcing them to make errors.
Under 14’s B Won 16-8
This was a determined effort by the squad against a competitive opposition, the girls defended throughout the court forcing Mount Kelly to make errors when the ball came into the goal third. The girls then capitalised on these mistakes and moved the ball fluidly down the court to goal.
Under 15’s B Won 32-12
A different starting line up with the two Lucy’s representing the school for the first time. It took a while for the team to settle but super defending by Tash gave the team plenty of possession, Truro forging ahead. An excellent performance from all players.
Under 16’s/18’s Won 34-26
A combined U16/18 team put in a fantastically disciplined and controlled performance to lead Mt Kelly from the first minute and stay ahead until the final whistle. Billie at centre was the lynch pin of attack and some excellent team work hints at exciting things for next year’s first VII. A large squad all saw decent court time and players’ versatility and adaptability was really pleasing.
Under 13’s County Netball Tournament
Although this year’s tournament was considered a festival, it was vital that the girls performed in order to gain a seeding for the U14 Tournament next year where they can progress to the Regional Finals. In the initial group stages Truro faced Humphry Davey and Fowey successfully overcoming them with ease. In order to progress through into the top group the girls faced Falmouth who were also undefeated, this was a highly competitive match but Truro’s fight and determination gave them the edge resulting in them winning 6-4.
Truro then faced Penrice, Truro High School, Richard Lander and Penair where these matches would determine where they would be placed from first to fifth position. In the first match the girls played Penrice and the pressure of the situation appeared to be getting to them. At half time they were drawing 1-1 however the girls regrouped and adjusted the timings of their drives in order to work better as a team and therefore came out with a comfortable 6-3 win.
The next match was against Truro High School, unfortunately THS had two key players, their GA and C whose game play Truro were not able to break down resulting in a 9-1 loss.
The third match was against the favourites of the tournament Richard Lander who proved too strong for us. However the girls knew a win against Penair would enable them to come third, the girls fought for every ball and showed real flare with their netball and came out with a 7-5 win.
