Netball Summary – Week Beginning Monday 17 March

Vs Penrice

U12A Won 18:6

This match was good preparation for the County tournament the following day. The squad of 10 players were rotated on court to get used to the different combinations. Play wasn’t as fluid as previous matches but the players were aware of what they needed to do. Through determination and teamwork they came out winners.

U12B Won 7:4

A super performance form the U12B’s against a competent Penrice side. Lauren and Georgia played strongly in defence. Bimini had a fantastic third quarter in centre court and really showed what she is capable off. Connie performed well throughout the match and was awarded player of the match by Penrice. Well done girls.

U13A vs U14 Won 36:20

With only 8 in the squad this gave us an opportunity to try out many various playing combinations. All the girls performed admirably, playing some extremely mature netball against a side a year older than them. A fabulous result. Emil was voted player of the match by the opposition.

U13B vs u13A Lost 9:24

The girls gave a good account of themselves but were always playing catch up against an attacking Penrice team whose shooters were in a rich vein of form. Penrice have a strong A team as proved in the County tournament where our A team only just beat them.

U15 Won 27:1

This was a great opportunity to try out our training objectives and playing combinations before the County Tournament next week.

The team started in a positive and focused mood and excellent timing and accurate passing throughout the court saw Truro take control of the game. It was a pleasing performance with all squad players performing well individually and as a team. We look forward to County Tournament with quiet confidence.

U12 County Netball Tournament

The conditions for the County Tournament were more conducive to kite flying than netball. The weather was horrendous and was not going to be good for the shooters in particular. The first match was against Wadebridge in which we were 1 goal up at half time but at change of ends saw us win 6:0.

Penair looked good in their first match but we came out winners 5:0. Following this we played Pool and won 5:0, then Roseland and won 9:0.

We qualified as winners of our section and were grouped with all the other group winners. The lowest we could come was 5th out of 23 teams entered.

Truro High school 1:2

Richard Lander 4:4.

Penryn 4:1

Mounts Bay 2:1

The High School lost to Richard Lander but won all their other matches. Unfortunately because we drew with Richard Lander we ended up as runners up.

The girls did extremely well in the conditions and I’m sure they will gain from this experience. We left the tournament cold and soaked through but extremely satisfied.

Squad: M Browne, M Griffiths, D MacDonald, Z Meads (Capt),L Holdsworth, R Trew, A Andrews, F Hocking, M Owen and R Flowers.
