Netball Summary – Week Beginning 9 March

Another busy week in the netball with games against Newquay Tretherras, Shebbear and some crucial games in the Under 12’s County Netball Tournament!

Vs Newquay Tretherras

Under 12’s B Lost 5-6
The U12’s played a combined Newquay Tretherras 1st and 2nd team. The first quarter was solely their 1st team and the girls lost 5 – 1. However the girls worked on defending the ball up the court and utilising their 3 seconds in order to get the ball safely to their team mates. They worked really hard throughout with only a few errors and the score for the final 3 quarters was 6 – 5 in Newquays favour.

Under 13’s B Won 7-6
An exciting game of netball, during which the lead switched hands several times. Truro, though, always looked capable of claiming the win. Georgie was rock solid at GD and Bimini led by example as she got the chance to captain the team. A solid team effort all round with some lovely phases of play by Truro and a wonderful opportunity for some loyal squad players to get some valuable court time.

Under 15’s Won 47-5
The team produced some fine netball turning over the ball readily and with super shooting from Savvy and Jasmine meant the game was never in doubt

Under 12’s County Netball Tournament

Ten Under 12’s descended on a wet, misty Bodmin College for this tournament. The draw took place on the day with local rivals Penryn College and Truro High School both drawn in our section, named the “group of death.” Truro School started slowly in their first game against Penryn but dug deep to emerge winners 6-4. This was our closest game of the day, the girls went on to win all of their group games and earnt a place in the 1st-5th play offs. With four other matches to play the girls were focussed and won all four games: 15-0 vs Humphry Davy, 12-1 vs Penrice, 12-1 vs Falmouth and 5-0 vs Penair.

Congratulations to all the squad who were a credit to the school, and thank you to the band of merry supporters for braving the weather. The Under 12’s are now County hockey and netball champions.

Vs Shebbear

Under 12’s Won 44-10
The Under 12’s were still jubilant after their County tournament success, they continued to excel on Saturday. The squad played in various combinations allowing all of the girls court time. Another super result for a very talented squad. Rosie Bartlett was voted player of the match by the opposition.

Under 13’s Won 37-24
Moments of brilliant play were displayed during the match vs. Shebbear. Lily played her best match to date and Aerin and Rebecca performed superbly in the defensive circle. Molly and Lara strengthened their partnership in the shooting circle. Zoe, Freya, Grace, Mary and Daisy all gave steady performances. Molly was voted player of the match.

Under 14 Won 23-9
The Under 14’s had a squad of predominantly shooters and therefore were required to show their versatility as a squad. The girls gained a 9-1 lead after the first quarter, this allowed them to try various combinations with some proving more effective than others. They maintained their lead throughout and dealt extremely well with the cheering of the oppositions parents which they should be credited for. Congratulations to Courtney for making her U14 netball team debut.

Under 16/18’s Lost 19-31
Truro travelled with only 7 players and only one with a preferred position as shooter, as a result one player would always be out of their favoured position. In the first quarter we pressurised the ball but then gave away possession once we had gain it. In the second quarter our heads dropped and we stopped defending throughout the court. However in the third quarter we picked ourselves up and won this quarter but could not sustain the same level of play for the rest of the match.
