Netball Summary – Week Beginning 7 March

Under 12 Vs Newquay Tretherras A Won 17-5

In preparation for their county tournament the whole squad went to Tretherras. Even though match time was limited it gave me the opportunity to get the girls on court. Mixing up the combinations the girls had to adapt their game. Mistakes were made but they defended to regain possession.
Under 13B vs Newquay Tretherras A Lost 3-7

The Under 13 B team gave a good account of themselves against a rugged and resolute Newquay team, giving up a lot of height advantage, before going down in a game closer than the score line suggests. Poppy was outstanding at WA and controlled the centre third.
Under 15 vs Newquay Tretherras Won 20-9

Nine players had a stormy trip to Newquay! But luckily we were able to play inside. It was slow start by the team with lots of passing errors and we were off the pace of the game. In the second quarter the team settled and put together some nice steady play, Courtney B and Amelia H feeding the circle well and with super shooting by Anais H and Ellie O, saw Truro take a little more control. Sophie W at GD had an excellent game and turned over lots of ball for the team. Everyone stepped up today and it was a real squad effort, well done.
Under 12 County Netball Tournament

Arriving at Camborne School with a mini bus of very nervous girls I knew we needed a good warm up in preparation for the draw. Once the girls did their drills their nerves we now transferred to excitement for their first match.
Treviglas: The girls were so excited at the start that we threw away the first centre pass but the defence made an interception and we got the ball back to our shooters and they scored. At half time we were 8 -0 up so it was a good chance to change players and positions. The players worked well and were not fazed by the changes. We were the eventual winners 13 – 0.
The next two games were very similar beating Camborne 10-1 and Liskeard 16-1. In both these games all the squad managed to get on court. The girls played well but needed to ensure they drove onto the ball and pressurised the opposition.
The final match in the first round was against Brannel, a match we had to win as Brannel had also not lost. This game was far more competitive and the defence were exceptional intercepting time after time. We struggled getting the ball into the shooting circle and were unsuccessful with our attempts at goal. 1-1 at half time changes was made and the attack was far more proficient getting the ball into the circle and the shooters converting to goal. Final score 4-1.
It meant we had won our section and now had to play the winners of all the other sections. Unfortunately one of our defenders had to go home as she was unwell. So this meant we had to change the team but knowing how well the girls could play and what a great squad atmosphere they had I knew whatever happened they would give their best.
The afternoon’s games started with Penrice and with a half time score of 2-1 to us the girls had to take care of the ball. They made vital interceptions mid court and worked the ball to the circle with our shooters holding space and then successfully shooting the goal.
Following this the girls played Truro High School, this was definitely a game of two halves. We dominated the first half and were 5-1 up in the second half we gave the High school far too much space and our timing of our passing and moves enabled the High school to intercept. We came out eventual winners 5-3.
Penryn was the next game to be played who went out from the first whistle and had a 6 – 3 lead at half time. We needed to drive on to the ball and not call for the overheads which in the second half we did but Penryn on this occasion were more accurate with their passing and won the match 8-5.
Finally our last opponents were Falmouth, and knowing their potential we had a constructive team talk and the girls went on court confident in their ability. Final score 8 – 3 to Truro.
The squad worked so well together and are to be commended coming 2nd out of 24 teams. Well done to you all.

Under 12 vs Shebbear Won 37-6

With a depleted squad due to sunburn from the county tournament the girls travelled to Shebbear. After the pressure of the day before they took to the court relaxed but still keen to win. From the start it was obvious Truro were the stronger team but they showed Shebbear total respect.
Under 13 vs Shebbear Won 47-5

The defence picked up lots of interceptions and passed the ball through the centre court efficiently. Overall great play, the team did very well to stick to their game style considering they were playing against a weaker team.
Under 14B vs Shebbear Lost 21-25

Last match of the season was a great opportunity for various players to experience match play. Molly was voted player of the match by the opposition and Maddie was voted by Mrs Jobling as her last coaches player of the match.
Under 15 vs Shebbear Won 16-3

Excellent shooting and a dominant defence making plenty of interceptions. The last quarter showed great teamwork with good timing of moves and passing.
Under 18 vs Shebbear Won 25-23

The Under 18s had a significantly depleted side once more due to players lack of availability. The 7 players available worked hard against a strong Shebbear side. Truro led going into the second quarter but Shebbear came out fighting and took command. Truro had to dig deep in the second half with some excellent shooting by make shift shooter Laura. A slight change to the positions with Alysia at Centre and Tegan at Wing Attack allowed some more controlled play with Truro just edging out Shebbear.
