Netball Summary – Week beginning 26 January

Vs Maynard

Under 12 Lost 11–23
This was a tough game for the Under 12’s against a very tall, determined and physical team. Truro played some great netball with some good passages of attacking play. Truro struggled to adapt to the height and style of play of Maynard. It highlighted the need to hold the ball up, mark closely and take care of the ball. Nevertheless lots of positives and an exciting team to watch in the future.

Under 13 Won 20–6
This was a closely contested match with the scores after the second and third quarter 9–9 and 13–13 respectively. The girls went into the final quarter determined to stop their opponents driving for the ball which they proved very successful at. With excellent movement in the circle and attacking court the girls were able to capitalise on their interceptions and score.

Under 15 Won 24–16
A super start to the season with the Under 15’s displaying some excellent netball. Great timing and accurate passing saw the ball safely in our shooting circle. Brilliant shooting by Savvy settled the squad early in the match. Lara at GK showed great promise and put the opposition under pressure. A slip in focus in the second and fourth quarters saw Maynard claw some goals back. Overall an excellent performance from all the players, well done.

Regional Netball Finals – Bournemouth

Under 14
In their first ever Regional tournament the Under 14’s performed admirably. Drawing their first game, winning their second and then narrowly losing the next two. The girls quickly learnt that the seven minute halves do not allow for many unforced errors. All twelve of the squad played a part in the day and actually played some of the most impressive netball in their age group. A steep learning curve and great preparation for future years. Won two, drew one, lost three (narrowly).

Under 18
In very cold conditions the girls worked with determination and poise all day. They represented Cornwall very well and were a credit to the school. They were in a very tough group and gave 100% in every match. Team spirit was high and the girls enjoyed the experience.

Congratulations to Alice Bebb, Emily Becconsall and Amy Pryor who went up to Bath this week as part of the Regional academies, to play against other girls in the system. It was also a selection process for the girls to progress to the Regional Performance Academy and ultimately England netball trials.
We have just heard that Emily has been successful in reaching the next stage. She will be training once a month in Bath; this is an amazing achievement for a pupil so young.
