1st round fixture, Tuesday 4th October 2016 (away) v Plymouth College U15s and U19s.
Our rising Squash players assembled at 2pm on Tuesday for the trip to Plymouth for this groundbreaking match in the Nationals which represented our first ever campaign in this most prestigious event.
In the U15s Jack Mahon and Louis Murray at the top of the order cruised effortlessly through their respective matches both winning 3-0 in double quick time. This was all the more impressive as they are only aged 11!
At 3rd string Josh Mitchell played an enthralling fast paced match against a very lively adversary and pushed through to claim an excellent 3-2 victory in the encounter of the day. Rufus Martin then used his physical speed to totally outplay his opponent 3-0 and Ben Thorpe took a very impressive 3-0 to wrap up proceedings. Final score Plymouth College 0 Truro School 5!
The U19s were equally ruthless in dispatching the opposition with former County champion Ethan Elwell leading the way by putting on a class display at no1 winning 3-0. At no 2 Callum Penry was too strong and clever for his rival and also took the match 3-0. At no3 Ollie Brocklebank won 3-0 for the loss of only 3 points in the whole match. At no 4 Oscar Pringle had to play a little longer to win 3-1 but was never in any real doubt and at no 5 Sam Dunn-Rundle was too strong and came through 3-0. Final score Plymouth College 0 Truro School 5.
As can be imagined, the atmosphere was very positive on the return journey and we now face two more encounters in each age group, needing to win at least one more each in order to progress into the knockout phase of the Championships. All in all an excellent start to our developing Squash National championships campaign.
