With public exams now coming thick and fast for most of the Malvern girls, I’m really pleased to say that the house is managing to retain a calm, relaxing air. Everyone is undoubtedly working very hard, but they are managing to keep some balance in their lives, and to support each other. There has, therefore, been a lot of revision and homework being done in the house this week, but the girls have also continued to make good use of the gym, and the school grounds and fields.
Saturday was spent working, popping into town, working out in the gym, and practising musical instruments. In the evening we had a house movie night, and all the girls settled down in the lounge to watch rom-com ‘Pitch Perfect’ – with their snacks of choice (strawberries and Haribo sweets) of course!
On Sunday, we spent a good part of the afternoon in the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre learning how to trampoline. Under the expert tuition of Mrs Burridge, the girls learnt tuck, straddle, pike and half turn jumps as well as a whole range of variations on a seat drop. All of the girls did extremely well to have a go and get involved, and all improved immensely over the course of their lesson. In the first session, Veronica showed her dancer’s flexibility, Alice was fearless, Nini mastered a great combination of moves, Yoyo overcame her fears and perfected the seat drop, and Penelope was the seat drop race champion! In the second session, Eliska was grace personified, Elisa persevered to master the seat drop into a half turn jump, our birthday girl Margot bounced higher than anyone, Theresa picked up the moves incredibly quickly, Hannah proved to be a complete natural, Bo was brilliant at the ‘double bouncing’, and Benny did an excellent job cheering from the sidelines. Even better, after this session a number of the girls have decided to attend school’s weekly trampolining club to improve their bouncing skills yet further – we may have some future world champions on our hands!
