Malvern – Talented Bunch

This week the Sixth Form girls enjoyed a Winter Warmer social event on Friday evening, with live music, food, and a Best Christmas Jumper competition (won by our very own Benny, no less!). After that there was time for a few rounds of Super Mario on the WII against the Trennick boys (Emily up-holding the girls’ honour), before we settled down for a good night’s sleep to recover from a busy first week back at school.

On Saturday the girls were involved in a mixture of sport, shopping, homework and afternoon naps! As the rain came down heavily in the evening, we congregated in the lounge to swoon at the dresses on show in Strictly Come Dancing, and to enjoy The X-Factor.

On Sunday the whole boarding community marked Remembrance Day with a service in the School Chapel. Although this is naturally a rather sombre occasion, it was also nice to come together in this way to reflect, and to focus on the importance on working together in peace – which is really what boarding is all about. After a hearty brunch we set out for an afternoon’s indoor climbing. Wearing harnesses and helmets, the girls learned how to belay and climb safely, and in small groups set about scaling 6m high walls via climbs of different levels of difficulty. Everyone did very well; flying up and down the walls in no time at all. Once again, a special mention goes to Benny, who conquered another of her fears by getting to the top of a wall – well done!

At the same time, Liva was being just as energetic at her first county badminton training session. To be asked to join this elite group after just a couple of months in the country is a real achievement. We’re all very proud of her and are looking forward to cheering her on at her first county tournament, to be held at school in two weeks’ time.

The week ahead sees several of our girls travelling to London to play in the School Proms in the Royal Albert Hall. They’re also playing a part in the staging of the school production, The Tempest, and a million and one other events. What a talented bunch they are!
