What a busy introduction to term! We started off with an induction weekend for all of the new boarders, which included not only the business matters such as new timetables, English assessments and uniform checks but also wonderful trips to the beach, town and sports hall. A lot of bonding and fun was clearly had by all. It was so fantastic to see that pupils from all over the world can meet in Cornwall and forge such strong and positive friendships in such a relatively short amount of time.
This weekend we were also incredibly busy but much blessed with wonderful weather. With a packed itinerary it was difficult to know where the boarders should go first. Friday night was DVDs and lots of chatting, Saturday morning was trips to the town and police registrations for those who needed to attend, and Saturday afternoon was given over to our main event – fencing. We were so lucky that John Salford the GB fencing coach provided each of our boarding houses with an introductory lesson in fencing. The pupils and staff alike just loved the experience and we definitely converted some of our new boarders to this wonderful sport. In the evening we had our usual WiFit and Mario Carting competitions followed by proper chick flick, thoroughly enjoyed it seemed by everyone other than me!
On Sunday we had a leisurely bruch followed by a magical chapel service with Rev de Grunchy, celebrating the anniversary of the building of the chapel. The rest of the afternoon was given over to relaxing, town trips and walking around Truro in the sunshine. A great preparation for what is clearly going to be another busy week for our lovely new boarders.
