Truro Prep students compete in annual IAPS Fencing Competition

On Saturday 14th May, eight fencers from Truro Prep School travelled to Millfield School for the annual IAPS Fencing Competition.  This year’s event was well attended and very competitive with almost 400 children competing across the 3 weapons.  The Truro fencers put in a fantastic performance under the guidance of Truro Fencing Club’s lead sabre coach, Balazs Kuracz.

The Under 11 girls’ dominated the sabre competition taking 3 of the top 4 places. Aimee reached the semi-finals and finished in 3rd position.  The other semi-final was an all Truro affair with Lexie managing to defeat Melissa (who finished joint 3rd with Aimee) and progress to the final where she fenced well to finish 2nd.  Special mention goes to Elia who fenced extremely well in her very first competition.

The boys’ event was very competitive with Josh Higgins making through to the L8 and securing 5th place overall.  Jonathan also fenced well against a strong field to finish 15th.  Nick and William (both U9s) fenced up an age group and did a great job against some tough opponents.

All the children fenced well, showed excellent sportsmanship and behaved impeccably despite the long day and late arrival back at school.
