Truro School has opened a new Tuck Shop with an emphasis on enjoying wholesome home cooked food.
Run by the team behind Truro School Cookery, the new Tuck Shop offers a delicious and nutritious range of products, including high-quality, freshly-made paninis and pizzas, tray bakes and free fruit for everyone.
Products and ingredients are sourced from local producers and suppliers and the drive behind this new venture is to maintain the school’s commitment to influencing attitudes towards good food and lifelong healthy eating habits.
The new Tuck Shop will be open daily and in part managed by a team of Sixth Form prefects studying for the Leiths Certificate in Food and Wine, providing opportunities for students to gain from the skills involved with running a commercial food business.
Maria Taylor, Head of Cookery at Truro School, commented:
“There are so many reasons to provide a nutritious Tuck Shop at Truro School. It not only provides opportunities for students to gain transferable life skills by participating in the running of the shop but it also encourages children to build a healthy relationship with good food and appreciate the benefits of home cooking as part of a balanced diet. After all, children need to be both full and healthy to learn and grow to their utmost potential.”
“Truro School is committed to instilling a healthy respect for food and this latest project supports the work done by both the Truro School Cookery team and the Catering teams who share a love of good food and devotion to healthy eating.”
“Business has been booming since the launch of our Tuck Shop and our nutritious homemade 50p range and free fruit options have been very popular with pupils. We are looking forward to updating our menu further as the seasons change.”
