Truro Prep School students enjoyed a ‘School of Rock’ style workshop on Tuesday when musician turned author, Stan Cullimore, visited the school to hold a song writing session.
Students from Years 5 and 6 grabbed their guitars and warmed up their voices in anticipation as they welcomed their second author visit of the year.
Stan, who started off as a musician selling millions of records around the world playing guitar and singing in The Housemartins, has since started writing children’s books, with over a hundred published so far.
Inspiring students to get involved in writing down their own ideas for a song verse, Stan encouraged them to use rhyming couplets to fit the melody. Students threw themselves into the task, coming up with their own chord progressions on guitar to match their lyrics and performing them in groups to one another at the end, with some groups chosen to perform their finished piece later on in assembly.
Students in the Pre-Prep were also given a presentation from Stan about his new books before students had the chance to get their own personal copies signed in a book signing at the end of the day.
