Truro School Head Girl, Katie Shepherd, has been selected for the UK-German Youth Ambassador Scheme.
The initiative, UK-German Connection, was launched in 2004 by her Majesty the Queen and the German President, Horst Köhler. Developed and established by the respective governments, the network is dedicated to fostering relations, promoting dialogue and increasing cultural understanding between young people in Germany and the UK.
Each year, both countries select around 20 Youth Ambassadors to promote UK-German activities in their local area. The Ambassadors attend two annual seminars in London and Berlin, to discuss ideas for projects and activities with the input of designated partners from the opposing country.
Katie said: “I feel honoured to have been selected as an Ambassador and intend to engage with younger pupils in Cornwall by running small-scale projects in local schools, such as language taster classes and workshops. By sharing my own experiences, ideas and interests, I hope to inspire them to take an interest in the German language and culture, to develop their linguistic skills and increase their contact with Germany’s youth.”
The first seminar will take place in London from 24-26 October. You can read more about it here.
