Weekend number two of the half term and there was a slight change to our usual weekend routine. Our weekend activity, usually on a Sunday, was moved forward to Saturday afternoon.
Saturday, therefore, was a very busy day for a number of our boys. We began with an early start in order to get three of our third years, Nick, Alex and James, off to an away match up-country. While they were away the rest of the house had brunch as usual and had the day off to relax.
However, at 3 o’clock, following the return of our victorious rugby players, we all walked up to school to take part in a Gamelan workshop run by a Gamelan Specialist who has studied in Java. This was an excellent opportunity not only perform together on new instruments but also to gain insight into the culture of Java.
We finished off our session with a performance of an authentic Gamelan piece, brought back by Jo Shaw from Java. Find below a recording of our performance – I hope you enjoy it.
We ended Saturday with an action film and pizza. On Sunday, some of the boys used their extra free time to wander into town and watch the new Harry Potter film in the afternoon. After dinner we did any final prep and welcomed the boys back who had been home for the weekend.
