The Under 13’s travelled to Plymouth College on Friday 16 October in the Independent School’s Hockey Cup, Second Round. The squad of eight, missing Laura due to the French/German exchange, were keen to impress in this new national cup competition.
After an eventful journey up and out of the county the girls had to work hard for the win. With Laura missing, Milly played in the central position whilst Franny filled in as centre forward. Two goals in the first half from Milly and Elinor gave us hope but at half time the game was still anybody’s. After a half time regroup the girls went out strong and started to play some much better hockey. There were many chances but the third goal took its time. A goal from Rosie and then two from Elinor seemed to seal the deal however. Amy and Elena played superbly in defence and Jess, when called upon was very solid. The team were on their last legs in the closing minutes. An injury to Franny saw her come off and be replaced by Beth, playing completely out of position for the final quarter. Plymouth battled hard and deservedly caught us on the break to slot the ball home.
The final score was 5-1 and whilst it was a shame to concede the girls should be congratulated on a very solid performance. We need to work on our options from the 16 and play the ball a little wider but the signs for a possible cup run are looking positive. We await our fate!
