King’s Bruton, Somerset
It was a split venue for this year’s regional hockey tournament, due to the considerable number of schools who entered. Our venue was King’s School, Bruton, which has stunning facilities; our pitch was a brand new sand dressed pitch. We took a squad of ten players, who all competed in the pool matches.
Our team had several excellent matches in their pool, in particular their draws with Kingswood and Warwick and their narrow loss to Beaudesert School. Elizabeth played with composure in defence and was identified by the tournament organiser as one of the best players at the tournament. Special mention must go to Poppy, who was injured at the start of the second match, and consequently was unable to continue playing in the tournament.
It was interesting for our team to watch the top two schools from each pool play each other in the semi-finals, particularly as Dumpton and Beaudesert Schools (both from our pool) proceeded to the final of the tournament. The atmosphere at this tournament was friendly; staff from Bruton generously umpired for us when required and their medical team were absolutely brilliant with Poppy. This was a memorable experience for our talented hockey team.
