IAPS National Swimming Finals

This year four swimmers in Year 6 qualified for the National Finals of the IAPS swimming competition held on 10 May 2014.

Times had to be achieved at a Regional Round that we held here at Truro School with Plymouth College, whose swimmers swim with the top UK club Plymouth Leander. Sam, Luke, Alexander and William achieved some of the fastest times in the country to qualify.

The National finals were held at the lovely K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, Sussex. Competing against us were top swimmers from schools such as Millfield, Dulwich Prep, The Dragon School and Plymouth College.

Sam, Luke, Alexander and William swam a wonderful race in the 100m Individual Medley relay team event to knock an amazing 6 seconds off their entry time and win their heat in 1: 12: 26. They came 6th overall out of 12 teams; a fantastic result.

Sam then swam in the individual 50m breaststroke and after a tremendous swim in the heats he qualified for the final in 38.22. In the final he bettered this again to achieve a Personal Best of 37.87 and bronze position just behind the winner.

Luke swam in the 50m individual backstroke race, improving his entry time by a second and qualifying as a runner up to the final heat. Luke achieved a very commendable 10th place overall.

We returned home tired but happy on the Saturday night. Well done to all our swimmers!
