The Under 12 Navy team played some great hockey during the County Tournament. Working together as a team the girls passed the ball well between the midfield with the intention of building the play to attack the opposition’s circle.
Captain M. Fabby played outstandingly in the centre making great tackles and intercepting the ball well demonstrating her great ability to read the game. A special mention to goalkeeper M. Higgins for some excellent saves made and to A. Jessup who started out in defence yet, when moved to an attacking position, she scored a fantastic goal for her team. I was particularly impressed with the Navy team’s communication between each other while playing and when not playing they stayed as a group and supported the Maroon team on the sideline and represented both the school and themselves brilliantly, well done all!
The Under 12 Marroon Team started strongly against Newquay Tretherras winning 3-1 before some questionable decisions led to an unfortunate 3-1 loss against Mounts Bay in a game we could have drawn or even won. More dominant wins followed against Helston and Truro High School B Team before a showdown match with Truro High School A team to reach the semi-finals. The girls put in by far their best performance of the day and worked fantastically as a team but came out second best to a phenomenally strong Truro High School team who would go on to win the tournament. In a happy coincidence, the last match was against Truro School Navy Team. It was a very close game with both teams having chances to score early on. It took a sublime piece of skill from L. Worrall to break the deadlock – as she had done many times before during the day – and decide the result of a very close, very enjoyable game to be a part of. All of the girls should be very proud of their involvement and achievements in the County Tournament and can work to a slightly better result next year!
