Hockey Summary – Week Beginning Monday 5 October

Under 12 Girls B Team vs Penair | Won 3-1
The 1st years worked tirelessly throughout the match, Libby worked very well taking the ball down the wing and then when we ensured we had players in the circle we were able to take the opportunities and score goals. At times coming out of defence we didn’t clear the ball wide and therefore gave Penair a few more opportunities than necessary to attack.
Under 16 Girls Vs Truro High School | Won 2-1
The Under 16 girls’ started off well with a goal by Matilda delivered by a superb pass by Sophie. Truro High School came back with a goal in the second half but Ardagh managed a late goal to win the match. Lots of positives and plenty to work on before the County Championships!
Under 12 Girls A Team vs Penair | Won 5-1
The Under 12’s started powerful against a Year 8 Penair team after not knowing what to expect as they were a year older. All the girls played absolutely fantastic, they worked well together as a team, building as a unit to put the goals away. They maintained the majority of the possession throughout the game, they were calm and confident on the ball, keeping the ball until the right pass was on. The girls have great ability and I look forward to them progressing further and getting the results they are capable of over the season. Goals from: Elizabeth x3; Nancy x1; Polly x1.
Under 18 Hockey Tournament
After a lovely start to the day, coaching Chacewater Primary School, the girls had high spirits and couldn’t wait to get stuck into the county tournament. With only three teams entered including us, after at least three teams pulling out to being short on numbers we had something to prove especially as our rivals Truro College were looking for a win.
We played our first game against Liskeard (who had an outstanding England player in the middle) they came out strong and shortly after a couple of minutes we went 1-0 down. The girls heads didn’t drop and we were determined to apply the pressure and up the work rate to get the game back to being ours, which worked as the game came to an end, ending 4-1 to us.
With only a 10 minute break in between we were then up against the college. The girls had high spirits and lots of positivity after just beating liskeard and had everything to play for. We maintained the majority of the possession of the ball throughout both halves, both were unlikely on a number of occasions just sending the ball wide and straight at the keeper. Truro College had one break which led to us going 1-0 down, we didn’t let that get to us, hard work, fitness and skill paid off and we soon got a goal back, levelling it to 1-1. The pressure continued but we just couldn’t find the net so the score ended in a much frustrated draw. Truro College won the tournament on one extra goal difference which was extremely frustrating, however the girls were still pleased as they qualify to go to the regionals in Taunton on Wednesday 4 November.
