Hockey Summary – Week Beginning 3 March

U14 Boys Hockey

Despite their best efforts, the U14 Boys Caradon League team finished runners-up to Liskeard Hockey Club. In the closest competition for some years, the team recorded 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss and missed out on the top spot on goal difference.

This team was joined by the rest of the U14 Boys Hockey squad on Monday and travelled to Millfield for the regional tournament. They were drawn against some tough opposition and were unable to progress from the group stage, but their overall performance showed much promise and certainly made it tough for the higher ranked teams.

U16 Boys Hockey

The efforts of the U14 Boys team was matched by the U16 Boys on Wednesday when they played in their regional tournament. Again, they were drawn against strong opposition, but certainly gained some confidence from their performances.

They gave the national U16 indoor champions, Exeter School, a scare, trailing 3:2 at half-time. However, Exeter regained their composure and went on to not only win the game, but progress from the group stage unbeaten. The team rallied well from this defeat, and narrowly missed out to the group runners-up, Victoria College from Jersey, losing 3:2.

Unfortunately, these two efforts had sapped the energy reserves, and the team were unable to offer much resistance to Sherborne College, losing 3:0 in the final game of the day.
