Hockey Report

December 2014

This season most of the girls from Years 3 to 6 have been involved in inter-school hockey fixtures. All of them have also competed in the recent inter-house matches.

Years 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 children are making great progress and have enjoyed scoring goals, passing and dribbling the ball. All pupils from Years 3 and 4 were involved in coaching and small sided games, involving Polwhele House School, last month.

Attendance of players at extra-curricular hockey clubs, both lunchtime and after-school has been good. Hockey is also now on the curriculum teaching for both boys and girls at all age groups.

Years 5 and 6

We have entered an U10 mixed team in the Penzance league, which has again provided valuable match play opportunities for pupils attending extra-curricular hockey clubs.

Earlier this term, we took a squad of ten players to the regional IAPS girls’ hockey tournament, held at King’s School, Bruton, Somerset. The team had several excellent matches in their pool, in particular their draws with Kingswood and Warwick Schools and their narrow loss to Beaudesert School. It was a tough draw, with the top two schools from our pool both proceeding to the final of the tournament.

Elizabeth Straw was selected for JDC training (Junior Development Centre) at Truro School in September 2014, which provides players with access to high quality coaching sessions. Several Year 5 and 6 boys and girls are now also involved with club hockey, outside of school.

We have enjoyed several memorable fixtures this term, with Truro School, Plymouth College, Truro High and Mount Kelly Schools. Our teams have competed well and made considerable progress with their game awareness.

Coming up next term are the U11 boys’ and girls’ County hockey tournaments, so keep playing all of you.
