Hockey Match Report – Under 13 Girls’ Hockey v Shebbear College

The Under 13’s, missing Elinor, Elena and Rosie due to netball, travelled to Shebbear College for this weekend’s fixture.
The usual girls, joined by Poppy and Kim, played some fantastic hockey in the very wintery conditions. Two early goals (Milly and Franny) in the first half settled the nerves but the dynamics changed when Amy had to come off following an eye injury. The girls, a little shocked, were unfortunately court on the break and conceded a goal just minutes later. They regrouped well and settled into their new positions quickly. Two further goals from Kim and Poppy saw a half time score of 4-1.
The second half saw sleet, hail and even snow and the cold girls, with no sub to swap on worked tirelessly in both attack and defence. Franny played some superb hockey out of her usual position and a couple of fantastic reactive saves from Jess kept the Shebbear attacks at bay. Poppy added a second goal to her tally and Milly closed the scoring with a beautifully cracked shot on goal just before the final whistle. Final score: 6-1.
It is fair to say the hot pasties, chips and beans in the Shebbear dinning hall were gratefully received and the girls smiles slowly returned as they gradually warmed up.
