Headmaster’s Blog – Wednesday 11 December

It’s a week since the Christmas Concert, but what a super concert it was; definitely the best attended concert I can remember. There was a lovely blend of ensembles and singing, from samba to guitars, Pre-Prep to Prep, and two fine solo spots from Luke Barnsley on clarinet and Holly Morris on the cello. But perhaps the award for most enthusiastic performance goes to all of the parents who took their part in the Twelve Days of Christmas most seriously.

This was then followed by the Year 1 and 2 Christmas play, in which naughty goblins attempted a take-over of the peaceful and calm Willday Woods; the acting was of course superb with no type-casting whatsoever! I am delighted that tranquillity is returning to the Pre-Prep!

Monday brought the Nine Lessons and Carols at Truro Cathedral with the Senior School and Prep Chamber Choirs singing together; it was a beautiful occasion with some really interesting and very fine music making; a particular mention also for Alex Beaumont for reading the seventh lesson with his usual aplomb!

I have just returned from seeing the Early Years Nativity Play – A Little Bird Told Me. It was so good, they did it twice! For many of the children this was their first time on stage; the team do such a good job putting something together that enables the children to have such fun whilst also entertaining their parents. I am sure now everyone is Tweeting about it and following the second performance they’ll be Re-Tweeting no doubt!

Still two days to go; tomorrow brings Christmas dinner and the Verse and Poetry Competition; never a dull moment.

Happy Christmas to all and we look forward to seeing you all fresh for the new term on Tuesday 7 January.
