It’s worth sometimes just stopping for a moment and taking a good look around. We are so lucky here to have such beautiful grounds and there’s no doubt that Colin, our groundsman does a fabulous job keeping the site looking so bright and colourful.
There are two particular flower beds which he has recently created; one at the front of the school as you drive in, adjoining the new outdoor eating area by the Dining Hall, and the second at the back of Treliske House, close to the quiet area of the playground. The colours are vibrant and strong, with stems seeming to erupt upwards in an exotic blaze of oranges, purples and yellows.
The Friends held a lovely reception here for new parents last Friday whilst the children had a cinema evening with Mr Hobson and Mrs Lovett. Hopefully it was a good introduction for the many new families into the friendly community of parents we have supporting the school. This was followed last night by a committee meeting of the Friends here at the Prep. Both occasions gave me a chance to reflect not just on how much the school grounds have developed over the last few years, with some wonderful developments like the Wildlife Garden, the new vegetable garden and the Outdoor Classroom, but also on how many of these changes have actually been funded and supported by the Friends. All I can say is a huge thank you to both Colin and the Friends for helping to create a fabulous environment for the children to be educated in. They are, really, very lucky!
The next Friends event at the Prep will be a Quiz and Curry night on Friday 3 October, with a cinema evening for the children. As was the case last year, some of our Year 6 pupils will organise the quiz and set the questions; so when it comes to the music round, none of us over the age of 21 stand a chance!
