Truro School had its most successful South West Finals ever at Bournemouth this week.
For the first time Truro School represented Cornwall in all four events, Under 16 Boys’ and Girls’ and Under 14 Boys’ and Girls.
The Under 16 boys found the standard tough but were able to win the play off for fifth place with victory over Kings Taunton, which was a creditable outcome. The Under 14 Boys came within a point of contesting the play off for Gold and Silver but had to settle for bronze with victory over Thomas Rich, the Champions of Gloucester.
The Under 14 Girls were very unlucky to lose the final to Queen Elizabeth School Crediton when they held two match points with the match tied at two rubbers each. Sadly both opportunities eluded the girls and we had to settle for silver medals but the Under 14 team will have three of the five girls who played this event available again next year so the chance of going one better next year is very real.
Pride of place must go to the Under 16 Girls team who were undefeated on the day and emerged as gold medalists. The high spot was their victory in the final 4-1 against Cleeve School, the champions of Avon who had knocked out the top seeds, Colyton School, Devon champions, in the group stage.
The Under 16 Girls go on to represent the South West Region at the National Finals in Milton Keynes at the National Badminton Centre next term.
