Missing a couple of key players, we went to the cricket centre for the county finals.
Our first match was against Richard Lander and we batted really well, winning the match by 20 runs. Our next match was against Brannel, a very close match and we were nearly all out, leaving Matilda last man standing – she didn’t fail to deliver and scored over 30 runs – and not out winning the match for us in the last over.
These two wins qualified us for the semi-final. We played Cape Cornwall, a strong side. Amy P and Rebecca bowled really well keeping their run-rate down. Amy E and Matilda were both retired batting and we reached the total with an over to spare.
The final was against Bodmin College and was shortened to a six-over match. This team had an England U15 player and we had to contend with her bowling and batting. We batted first and scored a superb 62 which we thought would be enough to take us through. Unfotunately, some of our bowling wasn’t tight enough, giving away a lot of extras. We got to the final ball of the last over – Bodmin needed three runs to win the tournament and were successful.
The match couldn’t have been any closer and the girls should be very proud of their achievement, coming runners-up of the tournament.
