At long last the weather relented enough for us to be able to play some football fixtures. On Wednesday 26 February, Kelly College brought three teams to play against our Year 5s and 6s.
U11 A team drew 1:1
The A team could (and should) have gone into the lead, before Kelly’s A team scored the first goal. To the credit of our players, we continued to lay ‘siege’ to the Kelly goal, particularly through our main weapon, some enormous goal kicks. Eventually the persistence was rewarded with a goal that earned the A team a deserved draw.
U11 B team won 3:2
The B team started slowly and were soon 2:0 down, however great defence prevented further goals being scored against us and gradually our attacking play came together resulting in three goals being scored to secure a creditable 3:2 win.
U11 C team won 4:2
Our C team had several players representing the school in football for the first time. The players played with pride and enthusiasm and gained the experience of playing in a variety of positions for the team. They also combined well together and came out 4:2 winners!
U8 v Polwhele – drew 1-1
On Thursday 27 February the U8 team played their second match against Polwhele after a long gap due to our great weather.
The team struggled to get their passing going, not helped by the opposition often having five players around the ball, leaving no space. Despite having shot after shot at their goal, it was Polwhele who scored first after a break away and their only shot of the second half.
Fortunately, at the very end of the match, we scored from a penalty to at least draw a match we should have won and certainly would not have deserved to lose. Well done to the team for their perseverance.
Well done to all the players and let’s hope the weather is now kind to us and we can complete the fixtures organised for the next few weeks.
