Truro Prep Football Report – March 2015
This season the U9 and U11 teams have been involved in 29 matches against other schools with over 60 boys and 1 girl representing the teams.
Under 9’s (incorporating Year 3 and 4 players)
The Under 9’s unfortunately had their fixtures against Polwhele cancelled due to poor weather, but they did play an A and B team fixture against Archbishop Benson, performing very well and just losing out to 2 strong sides.
2 teams then played in the Truro Learning Academy football tournament. Each team was put into separate leagues to play against local schools. Between them, our teams won 3 of their matches and drew one, playing competitively and scoring some well taken goals. Unfortunately this was not enough to secure the top two places in the leagues that would have taken them to the play-offs, but the players should be proud of their performances against more established footballing schools and the 3rd place both teams finished.
Under 11’s (incorporating Year 5 and 6 players)
Fortunately this season, along with our A and B teams, we were also able to put out a C team against MountKelly and C and D teams against Archbishop Benson, enabling lots more boys to have the opportunity of playing competitive school matches. Both teams performed very well and achieved a win and a draw.
The B team was very strong this season and gained great success, with the best performances probably coming in their 2-2 draw with Truro school and their 6 – 1 win against Mount Hawke.
The A team had very difficult fixtures against the top local footballing schools, but their competitive spirit earned them much praise and some very pleasing results, particularly with their league win against St. Mary’s and 2-0 win against MountKelly.
Special mention must go to Sam Whitelegg for rising so well to the challenge of captaincy and to George Purchas for his impressive goalkeeping displays.
Well done to all the players who have represented the school football teams this season and many thanks to the coaches for their time and effort.
