Head of UCAS at Truro School, Harriet Thompson said, “We are incredibly proud of James, Katie, Marina, Sadie and Sophie’s achievement in receiving offers from Cambridge and Oxford Universities, particularly given that Oxford University received a record number of applications this year. This is a reflection of not just their significant academic potential, but perhaps more importantly of the many years’ hard work, commitment and dedication to their studies that has brought them to this point.” She went onto say, “In total, eleven of the school’s eighteen Oxbridge applicants were invited to interview: an excellent experience for them all. Overall within the school, over 50% of applications made this year have been to Russell Group universities, and over 60% to the select institutions comprising the Russell Group, the 1994 Group and Bath University. We would like to congratulate all of our applicants on the excellent offers that they have received so far from a wide range of universities and courses.”
In addition one of the school’s talented upper sixth musicians, Joe Lee from Truro has been offered places to study a BMus (Hons) Jazz – double bass at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has been placed on the reserve list at the Royal Academy of Music.
