On Friday 12 September, Finn Hawkins from the 1st Year travelled to Rutland Water for the Champions Cup & Windsurfing National Championships.
Finn is a Member of the 2013/14 RYA Windsurfing Zone squad and has been competing in the UKWA events working towards selection for the National Junior Squad 2014/15. It was a hugely successful weekend, with over 220 windsurfers competing. There were 40 in Finn’s Techno 6.8mtr class, of which he was the youngest.
Due to the format of the event and the combination of the National Championships and the Team 15 Champions Cup, Finn had to compete not only with the 6.8 fleet but 7.8 and 8.5 and competitors aged up to 17. With nearly 70 competitors on his start line, Finn achieved 17th place overall, which placed him 2nd in the Techno 6.8 National Championship, and 1st in the Champions Cup.
This year Finn has competed at Bridlington, Weymouth, Pwhllehi and the Techno 2014 World championships in Brest, France, where he was awarded the trophy for the youngest of 420 windsurfers under the age of 17.
