This weekend we had British U17 Selection Circuit events in épée and sabre, in London and Sevenoaks respectively.
On Saturday in the men’s épée event, Charlie Dean fenced brilliantly to win the gold medal in a field of over 60, cementing his position in the British top three and strengthening his position going into the épée internationals later in the season. Conall Cromie reached the last 32, and Toby Harvey and Eoghan Cromie the last 64.
On Sunday in the women’s sabre event, Caitlin Maxwell (14) won the silver medal, with Maria Chart taking bronze and Millie Smith reaching the last 16.
In the boys’ event another field of around 60 saw young Jamie Craze (14) pull off the upset of the weekend, taking the gold medal from our own GB number two Josh Maxwell, winning 15/13 in an exciting final. Josh won the silver medal while Bertie Holdsworth (13) made the last 16. The weekend’s tally holds at two gold, two silver and a bronze medal in three categories!
