Fencing Summary – Thursday 4 September 2014

At the first events of the season our fencers took part in the men’s and women’s Under 20 sabre competitions in London and the epeeists travelled to Kidderminster. Eoghan Cromie competed amongst a highly experienced group of athletes finishing in 65th position in the epee event.

The sabreurs, after a summer of intense pre season training, were fit and ready to go taking on an event in which most of our fencers were competing many years under the age category. In the men’s sabre out of 63 entrants Alex Boote came 42nd, Bertie Holdsworth 27th, Jamie Craze 14th, Josh Maxwell 13th and Will Deary claimed the silver.

In the women’s sabre out of 34 entrants Molly Wood finished 27th, Lily Wood 23rd, Maria Chart came 3rd and after an incredible fight back from 14-8 down in the quarter final Caitlin Maxwell won 15-14 and then dominated both the semi and the final taking the eventual gold and still with 5 years left in this age category.
