Five Truro School fencers have been competing for the GB team at the European Fencing Championships in Maribor, Slovenia over the last 2 weeks.
Women’s Cadet Under 17’s Sabre Fencing
In the women’s cadet Under 17’s sabre event, Maria Chart had a tough day despite a strong start, drawing a difficult opponent in the early knock out stages, finishing the event in 33rd place.
Caitlin Maxwell stormed through the draw reaching the quarter final stages before being defeated. She finished the event in 7th place.
Men’s Cadet Under 17’s Sabre Fencing
In the cadet men’s sabre Jamie Craze was in action but again, after a solid opening poole, he drew a tough opponent and finished the event in 38th.
Women’s Junior Under 20’s Sabre Fencing
Yvonne Chart had a strong early poole stage but drew the number 2 seed and was defeated, finishing her competition in 30th place.
Based on their previous performances, Caitlin and Maria both qualified for the Under 20 event in addition to the Under 17 and finished in 17th and 37th places respectively.
Men’s Junior Under 20’s Sabre Fencing
Will Deary, competing in the junior men’s sabre event, was ranked highly after the poole stage but unfortunately drew his GB teammate who defeated him in a nail biting 15-14 fight. Will finished the event in 33rd.
