On Wednesday 23 September, 24 swimmers travelled to Millfield to compete in the ESSA South West division school swimming relays, with the aim of qualifying for the National finals in November. Each team competing in both the freestyle and medley relay.
Both the junior boys and girls A teams started off well, finishing in fourth position in the freestyle relays, behind the swimming specialist schools of Plymouth College, Millfield and Mount Kelly. With the girls beating the boys by three seconds. In the medley, the boys again finished fourth. A lot of new first year students joined us in the B teams, gaining valuable experience and showing strong potential for next year.
The inter-boys’ best performance came in the freestyle relay with all four boys swimming a sub 30 seconds for the 50m. In the week leading up to the gala, the inter-girls team changed many times, but they pulled together and again gave a very strong performance in the freestyle relay.
A good day was had by all with great team spirit and the older swimmers showing guidance to the younger ones and new swimmers being welcomed. The waiting begins to see if any of the teams qualify for the London finals.
