County Success for Truro School Cross Country Runners

On Sunday 20 December, five Truro School pupils ran for their respective Cornwall County cross country teams at the South West Inter-Counties Championships held at Bicton College, Devon.
After heavy rain the previous week the hilly, parkland course was surprisingly less muddy than expected but there were still some ‘interesting’ muddy sections to contend with. Each race included 50-60 runners representing the seven South West counties: Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, so the standard was high.
In the Under 13s boys race, Benjy and Jacob both ran well to help the Cornwall team to silver, Benjy finishing a fine 12th overall whilst placing 3rd in the Cornish team.
In the Under 15s race, Harris continued his great season, holding off a quality field to claim 1st place and to become South West Champion for the first time. Competing for a very strong Cornwall team, Alex had another great race (8th overall, 3rd in the Cornish team) and Elliot again ran well, with all three helping Cornwall win the South West Championship for their age group.
Due to their performances on the day, Harris, Alex and Benjy have now been automatically selected to run for Cornwall in the National Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Birmingham in March, and Harris has also qualified to run for the South West in the Virgin Mini London Marathon in April.
