Congratulations to the five children who competed in the County Primary Cross Country Championships at Newquay Sports Centre on Thursday 13 March 2014.
The course is flat and fast at Newquay Sports Centre, with one long incline, and the children also had to cope with chilly, dense fog. Each race consisted of 60 runners, who had all qualified through their different partnership areas.
The Year 4 boys had one large lap (1120m) for their race. Max coped extremely well with the demands of the course, competing for the first time in such a big event.
William (8th), Sam (14th), Rosie (8th) and Poppy (14th)
The Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys both had the same course (1620m), which consisted of one small and one large lap. Rosie and William both coped well with the fast pace, and had excellent speed at the finish of their races. Poppy and Sam both ran well, showing great determination and stamina.
Thank you to all the parents who came to support their children at this event.
The next cross country event is at Polwhele House School on Saturday 29 March 2014. Registration will be at 9.30am, with the U11 races at 10.45am, followed by the U9 races at 11.10am. Entries need to go in soon, so please see Mrs Luxton if you would like to be entered.
As usual, all of the after-school cross country club regulars will be invited to compete for the school.
The course at Polwhele is a multi-terrain cross country course, a substantial section of which includes part of the school’s woodland. There is a long uphill climb, so it would be advisable to train outside of school on similar types of course.
