Cornwall Junior Chess Championships

November 2014, Penair School

Jack Andrew won the Under 14 Shield for the School this month, maintaining his record of County Chess titles going back to the Under 8s in 2010.

He’s now a real veteran of the game having played in many Regional and some National finals, always representing School and County with quietly impressive skill and determination.

Former pupil and International Master Andrew Greet, now board two for Scotland, is putting on a simultaneous chess display in the Ben Ainslie Centre before Christmas, and Jack is being asked to take part; let’s hope he can challenge the Master!

Alec Sharbatian was runner up in the Under 15 category, showing a great deal of promise; he formerly played chess in Paris. Exchange student Jonas Lay played in his first chess tournament before he goes back to Stuttgart. Other commitments permitting, we now have a much stronger Chess group at Truro School.
