On Friday 30 January, The Economics and Business Studies Department were excited to host Cee MacDonald.
Cee currently works as a Policy Advisor with responsibility for labour markets in the Research and Analysis Unit of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
She gave an excellent talk to the Sixth Form, explaining what it’s like working at the heart of government, and how she got a job advising Ministers, working on legislation, and implementing policies. After the talk and a general Q&A session, Cee was generous enough to stay for lunch with a select group of students.
Cee studied English, History and Economics at Truro School and then went on to study Development Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies. She joined the civil service as part of the Economist Fast Stream programme in 2007. She was initially placed in the Department for Work and Pensions, where she briefed Ministers and the press office on the latest labour market statistics, crunched numbers on welfare reform, and managed a team of advisers in Tottenham Jobcentre (not all at the same time), before moving to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
We are incredibly grateful to Cee for giving up her time to come into School, and for delivering such an entertaining and inspiring talk.
