It has been another eventful week in boarding at Truro School. This week the boarding community took part in the annual Great Boarders’ Bake-Off, where teams from all four houses bake cakes and buns to raise money for charity. These were sold to their peers, and were greatly appreciated by the rest of school, who descended on the dining hall in droves.
However, before the cakes are released for public consumption, they are assessed by a critical panel of expects (member of Truro School staff) who rate on taste and presentation. Poltisco managed a respectable 3rd place for their cupcakes, which they lovingly made in our Leith’s Cookery School. Overall, the boarder’s made over £120 for their chosen charity.
This weekend, our food theme continued, as Truro welcomed its annual Food Festival, involving numerous food and drink stalls all over town. This is a chance to taste the best local produce and delicacies, whilst also catering for many international tastes (Gant was delighted to find a Thai food stall). On Sunday, we celebrated the Chapel’s 92nd birthday by attending a service, where the school chamber choir sung beautifully. This was followed by a trip to the Coast2Coast GoKart track near Hayle. The junior and Senior boys were able to race around the track in petrol-powered go-karts. Some of the boys were extremely impressive – Amari recorded the 4th fastest lap time overall, and held the lead from the start to the finish of his heat. This evening, Rudy and Roland enthusiastically undertook their duties as Poltisco House Representatives in the Boys’ Boarding Council, going up to Trennick to discuss issues with the senior boys, and returning with some good ideas for boys taking initiative and responsibility around the house.
This was an excellent opportunity to empower the boys and teach them how to raise concerns and ideas in an effective and productive way.
