Over the summer, Benjamin Symes, artistic director of cube theatre – Truro School’s theatre-in-residence – appeared in three episodes of ITV’s hit comedy-drama Doc Martin.
“It was great fun to be involved in such a popular and well regarded show,” Benjamin said of his experience.
The show, starring Martin Clunes, is filmed on location in Port Isaac, Cornwall, although is set in the fictional village of Port Wenn. Series six was broadcast over September and October 2013.
Benjamin said: “It’s an amazing set-up in North Cornwall, both in the studio and on location, and with going up to do additional dialogue recording in London. The crew and other actors are fantastic.”
He tried his hand at a variety of roles in episodes four, six and eight of the latest series, which included a van delivery driver, an asbestos remover and a ‘patient in the surgery prescribed to suck on a lemon.’
“It was a real privilege this time being directed by both Paul Seed (House of Cards/Auf Wiedersehen Pet) and Nigel Cole (Calendar Girls/Made in Dagenham), and working closely with Martin Clunes, who is both a genuinely friendly and a naturally funny guy.”
