On 5 March, two teams of Lower Sixth students attended the regional finals of the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (ICAEW) BASE competition. The event was held at Kingsley Village, and involved the students working through a case study of a firm to analyse its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and advise the firm’s Board on a range of key, strategic business decisions. The students gained knowledge in accountancy, finance and business, as well as enhancing their skills in the areas of: communication; team working; decision-making; adding value; and problem solving. They also had a chance to speak to representatives from a range of local and national accountancy firms, and find out more about a career in accountancy.
After some excellent presentations from all of the students involved, Truro School’s team of James, George, Manuel, Andrew, Manuel and Charlie were announced as regional champions. They will now go forward to the national final, to be held in Birmingham on 25 June 2014.
