Abigail Piercy from Upper Sixth has reached the National Final of the Rotary Young Musician Competition, due to be held at Truro School on Saturday 3 May 2014.
She represented Cornwall in the South West Regional Finals of the competition at Frome in Somerset in April to win a place in the National final on Saturday, competing against seven other instrumentalists from around the country at the school she’s attended since she was 11.
Abi also plays the piano, flute, and sings . She is currently studying Maths, Biology and Music at A Level and has been accepted into Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London to read Music on a scholarship.
She said of her future as a harpist: “I just want to perform with the harp professionally and to sing. When I was little I used to go to the piano and improvise and I just love to perform; although some of my early singing performances were not so good! I chose the harp as it was different and I love the sound of it.”
Following further performances on the harp, Abi also won Outstanding Musician of the Week at the Cornwall Music Festival in March and plays with the Cornwall County Youth Orchestra.

Update: Abi performed really well on the Sunday, coming 3rd against musicians from all over the Country.
